The Făgăraș Mountains, part of the Southern Carpathians, rise majestically in the heart of Romania, offering some of the most spectacular alpine landscapes in the country. Here lies Moldoveanu Peak, the highest point in Romania (2544m altitude), surrounded by sharp ridges, deep valleys, and clear glacial lakes such as Bâlea Lake.
The wild and dramatic terrain is complemented by the silence of nature, where wind and clouds create a unique atmosphere. Crossing the mountains, the famous Transfăgărășan route, witch is one of the most spectacular mountain roads in the world. Often called “the road to the sky’’, it connects the regions of Argeș and Sibiu. Built in the 1970s as a strategic military route, it stretches about 90 km and reaches a maximum altitude of 2,042 meters at the Bâlea Lake area.
