Picked up by your guide from your accommodation in the Reykjavik Capital Area. You can choose which time suits you best to start the tour. This tour takes about 8 hours, so in the summer time, it doesn´t really matter when you start the tour because of the 24 hours of daylight. In winter, it is better to start the tour early due to short days.

First, your private guide will drive you from Reykjavik to the South Coast of Iceland, where Solheimajokull glacier and Katla volcano are located. You'll start with a glacier hike on Solheimajokull, an outlet glacier, or a glacial tongue, extending from Iceland's fourth largest glacier, the ice cap Myrdalsjokull glacier. During your hike, you will notice the blue hued ice is covered in black, which you may at first think is just sand, but is actually volcanic ash from the 1918 eruption of Katla volcano! Which is your next stop, exploring the Katla Ice Cave. After your hike, your private guide will take you to another part of Myrdalsjokull glacier, since the Katla volcano is actually partially hidden underneath it! There it lurks, waiting to erupt every 100 years, and as mentioned above, it last erupted in 1918 so it's now due any time! For both the glacier hike and ice cave, we provide you with all the glacier gear needed; crampons, an ice axe, a harness, and a helmet. All you need to bring are waterproof and warm clothes, and your smile.
