Tallinn Food Tour – Estonian Food, History & Local Flavours
Tallinn (Estonia)
Location
What is Estonian cuisine – Nordic with a twist, a touch from the East and a hint of German influence?
Discover the answer on our signature Tallinn Food Tour, a guided food and history walking tour through Tallinn Old Town, Baltic Station Market, Kalamaja and Telliskivi Creative City.
Rather than simply taking you from one tasting to another, the tour combines Estonian food with the story of Tallinn and Estonia. Starting in the medieval Old Town, you'll discover how centuries of different cultural influences have shaped both the city and its cuisine.
During approximately three hours, enjoy around six food and drink stops at a varied selection of local venues. Depending on the season and availability, these can range from a medieval-inspired tavern and traditional cafés to a local chocolate maker, market stalls and contemporary food venues.
The tastings introduce both traditional and modern Estonian cuisine. You may try black rye bread, an Estonian-style open-faced spiced sprat sandwich, soup and other seasonal dishes, alongside local sweets and contemporary interpretations of Estonian food.
Drinks are part of the experience too. Depending on the day's menu and season, these can include Kali, Kama, Estonian schnapps or local craft beer, as well as locally roasted coffee, juice, lemonade or a seasonal drink.
As the tour continues beyond the medieval city walls, you'll experience another side of Tallinn. Visit the lively Baltic Station Market, walk through Kalamaja, once a traditional working-class neighbourhood, and continue to Telliskivi Creative City, a hub of Tallinn's contemporary creative and food scene.
The tour ends in Telliskivi, creating a journey not only through different flavours but also through different layers of Tallinn – from its medieval past to the creative city of today.
Throughout the experience, your guide connects food with stories about Estonian history, culture and everyday life, giving you an understanding of where Estonian cuisine came from and where it is heading today.
The exact food and drink stops and tastings vary according to season and availability.
