Discover the quiet elegance of Ikebana — the traditional Japanese art of flower arrangement — in a cozy and historic Tokyo neighborhood.

This experience takes place in Yanaka, a timeless district known for its nostalgic streets and calm atmosphere. In a private tatami-style room inside a local Japanese home, you’ll learn the foundations of Ikebana from a gentle, English-speaking instructor.

Rather than simply arranging flowers for beauty, Ikebana emphasizes balance, space, and seasonal awareness. You’ll learn how to create harmony between line, form, and nature — a meditative and creative practice.

One of the most unique parts of this experience is that you will personally visit a small, family-run flower shop in the neighborhood to select the flowers for your final piece. This adds a real-life local touch and helps support the community directly. Please bring about ¥1,000 in cash for purchasing the flowers.

This meaningful interaction with local shopkeepers is not only part of the process — it’s one of the highlights of the day. You’ll feel more connected to Tokyo beyond sightseeing, through simple, warm exchanges with the people who live and work here.

During the 60–90 minute session, you’ll:

  • Choose your own fresh flowers (with cash, approx. ¥1,000)
  • Learn basic Ikebana principles and tools
  • Arrange your own floral work with guidance
  • Hear the cultural background of Ikebana and Japanese aesthetics
  • Take photos of your finished piece
