About Corcovado  Mountain

The name Corcovado means hunch back, and was given due to the mountain`s similarity to a camel back (corcova). The statue of Christ at the top, is 38 meters tall (around 120 feet) and is one of the new seven wonders of the world. The trail is a bit steep at some points, which is perfect for regular hikers or the more adventurous ones. It Is considered to be a moderate/difficult hike, so being in good physical conditions is a must Along the way, within the lush Tijuca Forest, animals like toucans, capuchin monkeys and many other species may be spotted. Unlike the other hikes in Rio, this one does not take you to the summit, but close to it. The trail ends at the gate, where tickets to access the statue by van must be purchased.
