The Cerro Blanco Protected Forest has more than 240 species of registered birds. Cerro Blanco is one of the "30 sites Priorities for bird conservation in the Region Tumbesina It is one of the four protected areas at the level national that houses seven or more bird species globally threatened (Cerro Blanco has nine). In 1998 Birdlife International declared Cerro Blanco as the First Area of Importance for the conservation of Birds on the Ecuadorian Coast. Of the 240 registered bird species, 30 have ranges of Limited distribution and 24 are endemic to the Tumbesian Region.
